13.139. Grand Mother Power
An unheralded Grandmothers’ movement is changing the world. The story can be seen from now till February 2, 2014 at the Grand Rapids Public Museum. They have highlighted the event as:
Activist grandmothers are using their power to fight for a better future for grandchildren everywhere. For the first time in history, grandmothers around the world are campaigning universally and vigorously for political, economic and social justice. And they are succeeding.
There are more grandmothers in the world today than ever before. They are younger, healthier, better educated, and better off than they have ever been. They are energetic and effective and they are modeling important lessons of collaboration, generosity, patience, persereverance and resilience.
Paola Gianturco, a grandmother herself, has profiled 120 activitst grandmothers in 15 countries on 5 continents in Grandmother Power: A Global Phenomenon. Her interviews and photographs highlighting their amazing stories were the inspiration for this exhibition.
