13.105. Lakeshore Art Festival
Over the years people have been use to the Art In The Park during at Hackley Park during Muskegon’s Summer Celebration. The Summer Celebration was not doing well but the Art In The Park was doing well. How do you save the art in the park and make it bigger or better? The Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce stepped up to the challenge working in partnership with the Community Foundation for Muskegon County and Muskegon Festival Group to reorganize and invigorate the successful art and crafts fair associated with the former Muskegon Summer Celebration.
The event has been renamed the Lakeshore Art Festival and will be held July 5 and 6, 2013 in downtown Muskegon. The name has been changed to the Lakeshore Art Festival because it will not only include the traditional juried “Art in the Park” event in Hackley Park, but also an enhanced major craft fair with food, children’s’ activities and much more. It will be held in conjunction with the new Coast West Musical festival taking place at Heritage Landing.
TheLakeshore Art Festival has what I think are some subtle but yet major changes for the growth of the fest. The fest will now be expand into more of the downtown directing flow of the people into the businesses and to the post office. This will allow existing and new business be apart of the fest, not watch it from a block away and it will use the unique Muskegon downtown features to its advantage such as Western Ave being use for the children’s activities that leads to Alcoa Fountain Park next to the post office or the Olthoff Stage. The biggest advantage is will be seen in 2014 when the new downtown Muskegon Farmers Market is open.
