12.74. 2012 Gilmore International Keyboard Festival

April 9, 2012

Presented biennially over three weeks from April 26 – May 12, 2012, the Irving S. Gilmore International Keyboard Festival based in Kalamazoo, Michigan is internationally recognized as America’s most prestigious piano music festival. Now in its 22nd year, nearly 100 events showcase some of the most notable and accomplished pianists and keyboard musicians in the world along with artists just emerging on the international stage from Classical to Jazz. Also at various locations children’s presentation of Pianimal.

The piano is an animal. It has the roar of a tiger, the sweet melodies of the song bird, and all that is in between. Enjoy a free evening with sisters Elizabeth and Sonya Schumann as they take us on a musical safari to spot the wild Pianimal in its most natural habitat – the concert hall.

Pianimal is part of the Gilmore for Kids program, designed for children in grades K-5, though any age will be able to rekindle their inner child. This program will develop a new love for classical music in an exciting and interactive evening of live recitation, music and projections.

The Festival’s unique setting throughout West Michigan (South Haven, Battle Creek, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo & Kalamazoo area) is a major contributor to its success. The stunning natural beauty of nearby Lake Michigan and rolling countryside filled with orchards, wineries, art galleries and farmers markets add to the eclectic mix of piano and keyboard music. From classical to jazz in presentations from solo recital to musical theater, the Festival continually achieves acclaim for presenting music of the highest artistic caliber.
