12.56. Laugh Fest

March 12, 2012

What is Laugh Fest? I think they explain it best:

LaughFest isn’t a comedy festival—it truly is a festival of LAUGHTER. Sure, there are plenty of stand-up comedians on the lineup. But our festival provides a diverse lineup of seriously funny events that brings together an audience of children and adults once a year to honor laughter as an essential part of emotional health and wellbeing. Scientific research has shown that the act of laughter improves our health including pain management and social interactivity. And after a long winter in Midwest, there is nothing better than seeing the bright yellow smiles dotting the snowy landscape.
LaughFest also provides a way to raise awareness and funds for a very important cause—supporting children, adults, families and friends as they find their smile and laughter in the midst of a cancer or grief journey. All proceeds from LaughFest benefit the programs offered through Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids, a free community with a comprehensive program of education, structured sharing times, networking, lectures, workshops and social activities designed to support emotional health needs. Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids is the largest and busiest of the 52 affiliates in North America. The organization runs entirely on charitable donations and currently serves more than 10,000 individuals each year at its clubhouses in Grand Rapids and Lowell, Mich, in various schools and in five community locations.
