241. Grand Haven ArtWalk

September 8, 2011

If you have been to Grand Haven this summer you have probably seen some pretty interesting painted fish on the streets. Those are actually part of Project Rocket Fish. The Grand Haven Main Street Downtown Development Authority went trolling for a creative, community-centered fundraising concept. The organization came up with the idea to sell wooden “Rocket Fish” sculptures that companies and individuals can purchase, paint and put on display around town. People are able to vote on the Rocket Fish from Memorial Day to October 8th.

Whats special about the voting time for Project Rocket Fish? It coincides with Grand Rapid’s Art Prize and Grand Haven’s ArtWalk. With the large number of visitors coming to West Michigan for Art Prize, Grand Haven decided to find a way to help art fans expand their experience to the lakeshore. The ArtWalk will showcase artistic efforts from the local area and beyond. There will be outdoor sculpture along the Grand River Waterfront, in Central Park, and in other locations around town. Paintings, mixed media, indoor sculpture and photographs will be on view in businesses and community buildings throughout Downtown and the Waterfront.

Grand Haven ArtWalk takes place from September 21 through October 8, 2011
