196. Ivan’s Campground, Canoe Rental, and Cabins

July 19, 2011

This is the time of year for a 10 year stretch that I always look forward to (and miss) camping and later canoeing the Pere Marquette river through the Huron Manistee National Forest with a group of close friends from WMU and then some of their friends. If you heard someone yell “Summerfest Sucks” on the river that was us. We tried a few spots to camp or lodge, canoe or hang out by the lake but I think most will say from our large group Ivan’s Campground, Canoe Rental, and Cabins was our favorite.

Ivan’s Campground, Canoe Rental, and Cabins is run by a very nice and friendly family and as the organizer of out trip I always enjoyed doing business with them. They maintained their campground with pride with good canoes & rafts, clean bathrooms, nice lodges, etc. The campground has sites for RV’s, tents and for large groups the Rock. All the sites were a short walk to the bathrooms or a pavilion if needed.

The true beauty in Ivan’s is you can camp and they will pick you and drop you off at your camp site for a fun trip down the river. They have 4 and 6 hour river trips. I never made the 6 hour trip because group always seemed to take 8 hours to do the 4 hour trip. The river was always cool and refreshing even on the not so hot days.  So pack your coolers with food and beverages and make a day of it. For the novice or canoe partners that like to dump canoe I recommend getting the 4 man raft, it has enough room for coolers and is really hard to tip.

Ivan’s Campground, Canoe Rental, and Cabins is located at 7332 South M-37, Baldwin, MI 49304

(two miles North of Pere Marquette River & one mile south of Baldwin.)
