66. Rosy Mound Natural Area

March 7, 2011

Looking for a good place to do some hiking, see some wild life, walk along the lakeshore, etc. just to get away from it all but don’t want to drive too far for some peace and quite? Rosy Mound Area just might be for you. Since the Rosy Mound Area does have a motor vehicle parking fee, which are in effect from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. It tends to be a lot less crowded then some of the other beach areas in the Grand Haven area. The only complaint I have heard from people is this is a no pet park but they still go just to relax.

Rosy Mound is a classic Great Lakes dune system including high wooded dunes, foredunes, beach and a dune blowout. A 0.7 mile (one way) hiking trail from the parking area to the Lake Michigan shoreline includes 1,000 feet of stairs up and down the dunes and scenic views of woods, the dune blowout and Lake Michigan. A unique shade canopy, dune boardwalk trail and pit toilets are located near the beach. Improvements to this 164 acre park were completed in April 2004. Motor vehicle parking fees are in effect from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Rosy Mound is open year ‘round.
